Rashad vs Rampage

Finally!!!! AFter weeks of trash talking and showing their hatred towards one another during the 10th season of Ultimate FIghter, UFC rivals Rashad Evans and Quinton Rampage Jackson get a chance to let their fist do the talking. They are set to fight at UFC 114 in Las VEgas on May 29th.

JAckson has recently been quoted saying that he cant wait to pnch this guy while Evans is keeping quite about the whole affair saying that he isnt into prefight talk that much. All i know is that when the ring shuts on that saturday night there is going to be fireworks.

PErsonally this is the fight that I've been waiting on for a very long time. Any day you get a chance to see two mixed martial artists performing at the top of their game is awesome. Both have similiar styles although Rashad likes to wrestle a little more. Both fighters will be looking too finish early with a knockout trtying to embarass the other. May 29th seems to far away it needs to get here now.

Just Another Day

The other day while reading news on the UFC website i ran across an article that was titled, Jon Jones Killer Workouts. Curious of what an average day in the life of a UFC fighter was i took the bait.

For those of you who don't know Jones, he is an upcoming UFC fighter that has been labeled as the next big thing. The 6'3 phenom has a training regiment as unorthodox as the strikes he brings to the octagon. Each exercise is designed to push his muscles to the limit while training them to respond explosively.

An example of his average day is:
1. Hang Clean (5 sets of 5 reps)
2. Barbell Push Press (8 sets of 5 reps: 30 sec. rest between sets)
3. Lying Leg Curl (6 sets of 6 reps)
4. Depth Dumbbell Snatch (4 sets of 4 reps)
5. Ring Twists (3 sets of 4 reps to each side)
6. Clean from Knees w/Jump (3 sets of 10 reps)
7. Medicine ball superset (run the cycle three times for a total of three supersets)
• Medicine Ball Power Up (5 reps)
• Medicine Ball Sprawl and Jump (8 reps)
• Medicine Ball Plyo Push Up (8 reps)
8. One-Leg Straight Leg Walking Dumbbell Deadlifts (3 sets for 25 yards each)

Along with these exercises is cardio where runs 3 days out of the week.

What I'm trying to prove here is that UFC fighters are the greatest athletes in the world. You can't tell me a basketball player or football player could go through nonstop everyday routines like these guys do. They are in a breed of their own and not many have what it takes to do what these guys do on a everyday basis.

Return of the Beast

Over the past several weeks the Heavyweight King of the Ring Brock Lesnar, has been battling for his fighting future. Many thought that he had fought his last fight and appeared to be a lock to be out for the rest of his career; not so fast my friends. On January 20th Brock brought the boom down on the most televised sport show in America, SportsCenter that he is still the Heavyweight Champ and will be returning to the ring.

Last October Lesnar was preparing for his title defense against Shane Carwin when he fell ill to diverticulosis. News of this sickness shocked the world being that it is very uncommon for people under the age of 40 to have a problem with this. After being put on pain medication and antibiotics his body began to run its course and began healing.

Although he was able to avoid initial surgery he wasn't able to do the same with losing his weight. By the time he had left the hospital he had lost 40 pounds. Back at camp things are starting to go great for him again. Lesnar has put back on 30 pounds and after a recent checkup is said to be back at full strentgh.

Now many are asking whats next for the champ. Well soon we will find out when former Heavyweight Champ Frank Mir matches up against up and coming fighter Shane Carwin to crown an interim champ. In actuality the winner of this fight might turn out to be the loser seeing that President Dana White is already planning on matching the winner up with Lesnar hopefully in the summer. All I know is that the simple thought of looking across the ring at 6'3 265, gives me nightmares. Letting that be known I am wishing luck to all Heavyweight division fighters; your going to need it.

What is UFC?!?

Ufc is a new bread of fighting that has captivated the world. This sport has been around since the early nineties but didn't make it big until the year 2001 when current President Dana White purchased it for 2 million dollars. It has presented a new style that is a lot more exciting than the likes of boxing and the WWE. If asked to define the Ufc in a sentence I would say it's two guys going at it trying to kill each other, but it's a little more complex than just that.

There are many different styles of fighting that are used today in the Ufc. Below I have listed the most commonly used.

1. Boxing
2. Kickboxing
3. Muay Thai
4. Judo
5. Wrestling
6. Brazilian Jui-Jitsu

Fighters use the techniques listed above to finish off their opponent with either a knockout, submission, or if both fighters last through all rounds, a judges decision. Normal bouts consist of three five minute rounds with a one minute break between each round. Championship bouts consist of five five minute rounds with a one minute break between each round.

The last piece to the puzzle of figuring out the Ufc is the weight divisions. As of
now there are five main divisions which are, Heavyweight(206-265 lb.), Light Heavyweight(186-205 lb.), Middleweight(171-185 lb.), Welterweight(156-170 lb.), and Lightweight which has an upper weight limit of 155 lb. Fighters fight within their weight class and all shoot for the top of the division.

Now that you know the basics it's time for you to watch an event for yourself if you haven't already. I promise you wont regret it!!!
